Well, it's taken them three years to give us landscape in text and email. Wonder when we will get landscape in maps, iTunes store, YouTube and App store. Come on, Apple! :)

While you may want it I think landscape mode is the worst thing ever. The keyboard is bulky to use, the phone doesn't feel right in my hand, and you can't see a single thing on the screen while using it in landscape mode with a keyboard.

I would much rather have Apple kill landscape mode.

What exactly is wrong with giving people a choice?
I agree. Kill it and you kill our choice. I like landscape.

there is no possible reason for there to be landscape in the app/itunes store

I agree. You scroll down more anyway. Apps and tunes don't span across the screen enough to warrant landscape mode. All I want is a freaking lock so I can lock the screen in landscape or portrait. Kindle App has it, why not Apple?

I tried using SMS in landscape exactly one time, lol. I thought it would be so cool with the bigger keyboard and everything, but then I couldn't see hardly anything above the keyboard, maybe just the last previous message. Completely negated the nice threaded conversation look of SMS.

I still think the whole OS should have a landscape mode. The Storm and Android have it and they're just a s new or newer than the iPhone OS. I was amazed how quickly my friend's Storm switched orientation on the BlackBerry screen. The icons change quicker than the iPhone's in an application because there is not really an animation. Same in Android. I would rather save 10 minutes a day waiting for animations to load and happen than look at the beautiful spinning things. :D

There is a rotation inhibitor for Jailbroken phones.

heck yeah there is. i hate landscape it's so annoying. i'm sure on a 3GS freshly rebooted it changes fast and quick but there is definitely a 3-5 second delay for me on my 2G with the portrait to landscape

Uh...if there WAS a choice, that'd be great!

But you have to jailbrake to get that rotation inhibitor thing. What we have now is the opposite of choice. It does what it wants and that's that.

I'd love Apple to put a rotation inhibitor choice into the phone. If they did that, then fine, I have no problem with landscape as a choice. But until they do that then I too wish landscape would just die. Outside of videos, photos, and Safari it's the dumbest feature ever.

I agree with you. I don't even like lanscape in iPod. Who wants to sit there and flick through album covers when it's far easier to find what you're looking for in other views.

And before all the landscape lovers jump on us, I DO want you to have that landscape option for yourself. They shouldn't remove it. I just wish we could all choose our preferred method.

its a free country!

Apple should definitely give the choice. I like landscape better, but theat doesn't mean anybody HAS to use it!!!

I love semantics.

When Jailbroken its a rotation inhibitor thing, but when its officially blessed by Apple then its a rotation inhibitor choice.

FWIW I think an official solution from Apple would be extremely annoying. Unless you can set rules, like toggles for certain apps, do you really want to have to switch to Settings, and drill down several times just to activate it for Safari when you had it previously turned off? Apple just needs to buy the rights to SBSettings to make all our lives easier.

I'm still surprised that there isn't a Favorites pane for Settings.

Many users have no interest in jailbreaking... but if Apple added it officially, they wouldn't need to jailbreak, so therefore Apple's method is better.

Yea, jailbroken phones. I shouldn't have to jailbreak my iPhone to get the option that I want. There should be an inhibitor built-in.

Just because some of you want total landscape doesn't mean we all want it. Sometimes choice isn't best.

Uh

what?

Do you even know what you're talking about, in the slightest? Sometimes choice isn't best?

What?

Who are YOU to decide that? How does it hurt YOU? Sure, it would be a better option to be able to choose not to use it -- but for you to suggest it should be taken out, when many people, including myself enjoy landscape -- is ludicrous, selfish and completely outlandish.

Apple needs to have an option for apps like Safari, Messages etc that either shut off landscape or turn it on permanently (I would LOVE messages to be landscape permanently) but in no way should they remove landscape because of a few people like you.

All I want is an inhibitor. But they should NOT make things landscape permanently just because YOU want it.

I usually use landscape mode while in bed. The perfect pairing is to have 3.0 landscape with a jailbroken phone with sbsettings. There's toggles to turn on/off the rotation.
