I've had it enabled on the iPad since I got the iPad Pro 9.7 in 2016 so I just enabled it on the MacBook, too. On the iPad, it does help with not disrupting my sleep.

Honestly though, probably less useful on the Mac since I don't use that to read ebooks at night like I do on iPads.

You may be referring to night shift rather than True Tone...?

As soon as it became available on my devices (macbook and phone) I enabled Truetone and disabled Nightshift.

Truetone reacts to ambient light colour which works much better for me, rather than nightshift's "it's 10pm, let's go yellow!".

I voted, although I don't have an M1 laptop. Not sure why that's relevant, as it works the same way on the Intel ones.

On AND off

Depending on the mood, the time of day and on what I am doing. Editing a photo gives a better result with no True Tone (or Nightshift)

But I have a troublesome relationship with both of them. Sometimes my eyes feel relieved when switching it off, sometimes when switching it on. Maybe it depends on the amount of carrots I ate..

But a nice scientific view on the amount and color of light and interference with sleep I read on the BBC website some time ago. It stated that the color is less important than the amount of light. They even found a tendency to improved sleep with blue light at a very low intensity compared to light with colors shifted to the red with very low intensity.
So that will be not the last word.....:)
But that's about Night Shift. I know.

I usually leave both True Tone and Night shift on full time. The latter reduces eye fatigue in my experience.

In my experience and environment, True Tone gives the display a warmer tone more often than not.

With Night Shift set to around 25%, iPads with True Tone look warmer/more yellowish than iPads without. I prefer True Tone + Night Shift @25% versus plain Night Shift @50%.

On if I'm coding/reading.
Off if I'm editing my photos.

It's perpetually on with my phone and iPad, and my eyes are very thankful.

It's off much of the time since I run with an external monitor with the MBA in clamshell mode. But when I use the internal display, I use True Tone.

I love TrueTone since it reduces my eye strain. But I am indecisive about Night shift. At the moment I have it turn on at sunset…but sometimes I turn it off out of curiosity and with TrueTone on I think that NightShift seem quite overkill

It's not very good on external displays and there's no way to disable it per screen or only when multiple screens are used... so it's off for me

I have True Tone off. I also go into accessibility and create a color filter adding a hint of magenta at the first intensity notch. If I were to run True Tone, I'd use it with my magenta filter, which softens the yellow nicely.

I don’t need the display for any type of professional rendering. I’m only interested in what pleases my eyes.

I also use the accessibility filter on my iPhone 13pro max in order to get truer whites. I started doing this after I upgraded from an iPhone 6S plus to the 8S plus, when I discovered that I preferred the color on the 6S and was able to match it with the filter.

On when I am randomly browsing or doing casual stuff. When I am making assignments for my study till late in the evening I put it off. Same as night shift.

I don't want to have a warm and mellow screen and feeling, cold an hard is what I need then. Although I have my brightness on half or sometimes lower in the night.

The yellow tint of true tone is not at all visually appealing. Off as well as night shift.
