iPhone Truecaller is Scam app

That's called an unfortunate coincidence. Correlation =/= causation.
I'm not a fan of the app myself, but the app has been installed and used by thousands of not millions of users. Pretty sure we would've heard about if before you.
Unfortunately, like many things the idea has been hijacked.
TrueCall is an item, an actual piece of technology, designed to be inserted between your phone and whoever calls you on the phone line. Originally designed as hardware to intercept scammers and unknown individuals calling in the UK, scammers have created FALSE versions of this item for your mobile phone/apps for your PC.
We all trust too easily in what we see and phone number spoofing is an item all too prevalent now. You thing its a friend calling because the number is right - it turns out to be someone for PPI, Sales or even YOUR BANK ... or whatever else companies want you to accept as a genuine caller.
TrueCall is a genuine item in the UK, rights that have been bought into by SKY and BT for use in cold calling/spam calling or whatever you like to call it to block unwanted calls for the customer.
The False apps out there do indeed increase the calls you get, it needs some checks to make sure your getting the right app - I'm in the UK so I cant say what is genuine for anyone reading this - only to advise you to check before you install any such app on your phone.
Scammers are creative - it all you need to remember, anything you put on your phone needs the same sort of caution you would use on your computer.

Therefore, it is important to think about how a number could have ended up on a spammer's list - is the number listed in any other public source? Has there been any online shopping where a phone number is input or for any forms where a number is used? Have you checked to see if your operator sell to third parties? These are major causes of spam calls.
The purpose of Truecaller is to stop people from getting spammed or ripped off from sales, marketing, fraud, etc. Ignoring this purpose would go against our beliefs of creating communication safety and efficiency. Without our user’s trust, we would not have grown to over 250 million users globally. We take spam calls/sms and our user’s privacy very seriously, and that is why it's important to us to converse, listen, and answer our user’s concerns and help people understand the app’s purpose and our mission to defeat spam.

Explain how are search numbers increasing without wifi? Try yourself if you don't believe me, put iPhone in airplane mode and watch the numbers increased as if it's real-time from trucaller servers.
Look at the 2 photos, In 1 minute the search numbers increased with out any real server connection.

The counter in the app is approximative i.e it increases based on the rate at which the database is growing. This is quite a common way of implementing counters in applications and web pages and the reason is that it would give little extra value and drain a lot of battery if the app was constantly asking the server for the exact number every second.

Thanks for warning! People are so inventive when it comes to fraud or identity theft, but sometimes people themselves are happy to provide everything they need and don't need.
