I wanted to get a feel for how people were treating the display of the iPhone X. I have kept mine as is out of the box assuming this is what Apple recommends to avoid any issues, burn in, etc. I turned them off though and the display was even better than what I was experiencing (already very impressed with the X display). I am just worried it could cause issues. What settings are you using when it comes to your display? What advantages or disadvantages do you see with either or?

I'm loving the X display. I did have true tone turned on but then didn't like how yellowish and dim the lock screen looked when I showed it to people so I turned it off. Then it still looked that way so I turned the brightness all the way up. Leaving it that way for now. I have Night Shift turned on for a warmer setting in the evening so I don't feel like I'm burning my retinas lol.

Yea I turned TrueTone and auto-brightness off and put the brightness all the way up and I was amazed how good it looked. I just couldn't imagine keeping it there for extended periods of time. I'd imagine using it that way could potentially damage the screen? Or no?

I feel like True Tone is adjusting the screen to much, particularly compared to my iPad, where I really enjoy the feature. I also feel like I’m constantly fighting Auto Brightness because it’s constantly turning it down too low. On my 7 Plus I felt the same way but it did seem to improve. I wasn’t sure if that was from an iOS update or if it learned over time what my preference was.

There's a recommendation under autobrightness

"Turning off autobrightness may effect battery life and long term display performance"

Which strongly suggests to me to keep it on.

Regarding truetone for me this makes the display too yellow/orange like nightshift.

That's what I saw also so I haven't messed around with that. Although I only plan on keeping this phone for a year. I haven't had an OLED screen so I just want to make sure I don't get two months into this and I have all sorts of problems.

Same with me. I'm only keeping this phone until the next one in September, so I'll use it how I like. I don't like True tone or auto brightness. I adjust the brightness myself depending on what I'm feeling. Very rarely do I go above 70-80% though, it's just a bit too bright (although it looks incredible, sometimes I'll put it all the way up just to admire). If the screen craps out, that's what AC+ is for, $29 brand new screen. I doubt you'll experience more than one burnt out screen within a year using it that way.

Yea I didn’t do the Apple Care. I’ve never needed it. I’ll likely just roll with it as is. Maybe take the TrueTone off if it bothers me. I just can’t take everything off and look at the screen too long or I’ll need to keep it that way haha.

Pet peeve when cell phone first came out was not being able to see the screen out side or being blinded inside.
Auto brightness is on.

After spending years in video & audio support a screen that accurate to whats being captured is key.
True-tone with the expanded color gamut is On. Its not perfect but a definite step in the right direction.

An EBU grade DCI-P3 gamut screen costs a lot more than an iPhone X so I'm not complaining about what Apple has delivered.

I have True Tone on. Auto brightness on. Colour filters toggled to on but didn’t make any changes to the sliders. Display looks magnificent. If I toggle off colour filters. Display is too yellow.
