I have a new macmini scheduled for delivery this week.

I live in a rural area, and have a secure place for the package to be left so I am not worred about it dissapearing from my doorstep.

The question is, do I sign the release form and trust the fed-ex driver to leave the package ? I cant take off from work, and the fed-ex depot is 90 minutes away from me.

I wouldn't. Why take the chance?
Why not have it re-routed to your workplace?

I have NEVER had a problem with UPS or Fedex leaving a package. When my Mini was delivered I left the Fedex signed authorization taped to the door and a waterproof tote on the stoop Was there when I got home.

Unless you live in a high crime neighborhood, I say go for it!

I'd say the bigger issue is how your local FedEx carrier handles packages. For example, I wouldn't sign for a Mac delivery via UPS because our local carrier tends to toss packages at our front door rather than place them there .

Actually both the UPS and FedEx drivers are pretty good. In inclement weather my driveway is inaccessible at times. Drivers from both companies will WALK from the road to my front door through mud or snow to leave my packages. Really gotta hand it to these guys sometimes. Not the most glamorous of jobs, but they seem to take what they do seriously.

In regards to shipping it to my place of employment, no can do...With downsizing that is one of the perks that were lost.

A few days FedEx dropped off my MacMini. I signed the release form so they would leave it outside for me. I believe they're offering a service that allows you to request for them to hold your package at the nearest FedEx location so that you can come pick it up yourself. That might be the better option if you're concerned.

Depends if you can handle the financial loss! If you can't then don't have them leave it on your doorstep. Let us know what happened! :)

Unfortunately the "nearest" fedex location is a good hour away from me.

The package was left safe and sound right where I left it. Not really sure if I would do that again though...
