Hi.

I'm trying to make a USB Mountain Lion Install disc - Correction - install USB stick - for a early 2011 MacBook Pro. It operates but its drive was corrupted. I will replace the drive when I get an operating OS on it.

I downloaded the Mountain Lion install from Apple, on a 5,1 running Mojave, dragged it into Mojave's Applications folder, and then double clicked the virtual disc which then appeared to creat an install program.

I put in a USB stick (Lexar brand), formatted it, called the disc Lex_M_L, and then went to terminal.

The command I gave Terminal was:
sudo /Applications/Install\OS\X\Mountain\Lion.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Lex_M_L --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mountain\ Lion.app --nointeraction

It requested my password which I entered

Then it said could not find createinstallmedia

And I could not either. This used to be the utility that did the work of re-formatting the USB and installing the installer OS for a USB.

I need help!!! Please!!!

Thanks, but did not work.

That write up's formatting of the USB was difficult for me to understand, and after many tries with the attempts not working, I gave up.

I ended up using Diskmaker X app. Its designed for this job, it formats the USB correctly. Then it copies the InstallESD.dmg file to the USB. The trick with Diskmaker X is to know where to find the InstallESD.dmg utility file ...

I also looked my purchases and downloads from Apple. I paid $Au 21.99 in 2012 for Mountain Lion. Just as well I guess ...
