Trying Iphone 4 Update Help

Hi to all.
I will try to explain the best way what is happening to Me.

1.- I own an Iphone 4s Factory Unlocked
Since i upgraded to a new phone i left the Iphone 4 in a drawer.
Now im trying out a new GSM Carrier that uses an App to set up the data plan that meets my necesities, the problem is that this App needs IOS 8 or above to Work.

2.- My device has the IOS 7 installed on it

3.- So i downloaded the latest ITunes Software and try to Update my phone but i keep getting this unknow -1 error
4.- Now my phone gets stucked in the connect to itunes screen
5.- Since i was doing an update didnt take the time to backup my Data, now i cant access to my pictures.

6.- Is there a way to regain access to my phone, backup the data and then bypass this error so i can finally update the IOS?

Well, the "connect to iTunes" screen does not disappear even after restarting?
And do you have iCloud Photo Library opened on your iPhone 4s?
Also, if it is iphone 4 then it is impossible to upgrade to anything above iOS 7.
