I am new here and I am trying out an iPhone for the second time in my life. The first one was an iPhone 6s Plus which are used for about a month and now I’m trying out an iPhone XS Max. I’m coming from a galaxy S9 plus which I really love and I was anticipating the S 10+ but I just couldn’t keep myself from trying out the Max. They Thing is I really want to like iOS. But there are things keeping me from liking it as much as android.I was hoping people here would have suggestions at maybe something that I am doing wrong or something that I am not seeing since I’m not familiar with iOS like I am with android. Here’s my list of complaints if anyone has any helpful hints or tips I would be really grateful! Thank you!
1. No consistent place for the back button. Sometimes it's on the upper left, sometimes you swipe from the left side of the screen. Being a one-handed user both are inconvenient.
2. I use voice typing almost constantly. I rarely ever use the keyboard and Siri just sucks at it. Yes I could download gboard but what's the point if I'm going to do that I may as well stick with Android.
3. iMessage. I know it's considered the Holy Grail of messaging platforms but I can't stand it. First of all if I want to send a video to someone with an Android phone I still have to use Facebook Messenger or it's going to be compressed down to ****. I just don't understand how someone sees iMessage as seamless when you have to take this into account with your Android friends and family. Also you can only send voice clips to other iMessage users... I couldn't believe it. Instead you have to use the voice memo app and then share it with your Android contacts... Or again just use Facebook Messenger.
4. Not being able to choose default apps. Well there is a workaround I could download all the Google apps and they will work together but again if I'm going to do that why not just stay with Android?
5. ICloud photo. The search function sucks compared to Google photos and no I don't care about privacy. I'll gladly give up privacy to have it instantly recognized all my family members, friends and pets. All without having to lock the screen and plug it in so it can index everything.
6. I've had nothing but constant problems playing background videos with YouTube Red using my Bose Bluetooth speaker. Never a problem on Android but on my second XS Max I'm still having problems with it just not resuming.
7. LTE connection issues. When I leave my home and disconnect from my Wi-Fi I always have to turn mobile data off and then back on. This is why I'm on my second phone and the problem persists. It doesn't matter if I drive a block or 5 miles until I do that I get no signal even though it says I have 4 bars LTE. Speed tests won't even work.
8. I almost forgot about this one but the settings just seemed convoluted. Having to go into the settings and then the app just seems backwards. I just prefer to go into each individual app and access the settings from within.
There are so many more reasons but I just can't think of them off the top of my head. Overall I guess I'm just an Android person. Specifically Samsung because I have even more options and features than stock Android and better hardware. I really want to love the XS Max and I do enjoy those iOS animations but I just don't think I can stick with it.
As far as updates it's not a problem for me. As long as I get regular security updates I could care less if I get the next version of Android since I usually only keep a phone for a year or two max. I get monthly security updates for the Samsung and Samsung Experience is so different than stock Android I can barely tell the difference when I do get an OS upgrade.
