I thought this would be really simple. But I digress.

My thinking was to add my email address and a phone number to the lock screen on my iPhone. My phone is obviously protected with a passcode, so if I lose it (in some good neighborhood) and whoever finds it wants to return it, they should be able to see my email address or phone number on the lock screen and then contact me.

So I saw that someone can use a widget, like "Any Text" for instance, to add it to the lock screen with a custom text. Which worked great, except that when I reboot the iPhone all Apple widgets are showing well, and the "Any Text" widget shows with a masked bar, or in other words, the text is not visible. And that "kinda defeats the purpose".

I started looking into it and it seems like this was done on purpose. (What purpose, is hard to know, because Apple widgets load just fine.)

So I'm wondering, if you guys can recommend a way to add my email and a phone number to the lock screen so that they are visible all the time (even if the phone is not yet unlocked.)

You might consider setting yourself up as an Emergency contact in medical information!

Maybe it won't do what you want but seems worth considering.

Maybe using Apple Configurator?

Just add your text to a wallpaper image - then use that for the Lock Screen wallpaper. That’s what I do.

On my lock screen wallpaper I have the text, “Contact (my email address) if found. Reward!”
Did same but required Adobe help.

Thanks guys. I'm using one of those animated wallpapers that shows my location on the globe. Where is it stored? I don't know if I can just edit it in a photo editor.

If you lose you phone, you should be putting it into lost most. When you do that, you can have your information show so the finder can contact you.

+1. This is how I do it. No need to flash my phone and contact if the phone isn’t lost.
