So I SSH'd some themes into winterboard and over time I got down to the ones I don't want to use and want to delete them but getting into SSH I can't remove the folders. I always get this error:

"Couldn't remove directory: failure"

I know there is a way around it I just don't know what to do from here. Can someone help me out?

May be too obvious, but have you tried it as root?

I may sound like an idiot but not sure what you mean, I can get into SSH and access the folders just can't delete them. Is rooting a method to do that?

By default, you are signed into your phone as the user "mobile." That account does not have permission to do everything to all files and folders. It is possible that the folders you are trying to delete have inherited permissions from parent folders that will not allow you to delete them from a user account (that is 'mobile' may not have write permissions). Signing into the root account might allow you to delete these folders.

If you do not understand what I am talking about, I would advise you against giving yourself root privileges. The root account can read, write, and execute any file. It is therefore entirely possible when signed in as a root user to do things you would regret. In fact, if you don't understand user accounts and permissions, you really shouldn't be playing around with SSH anyway. Might want to read up on them before proceeding.

Ive had this problem, are you using Fugu? If you use cyberduck or i believe winscp you can delete anything you want no problem. But Fugu wont let you delete the folders.

Yea im using Fugu, i'll try cyberduck

For some reason I always assume people are using SSH in a terminal.

That was my fault I didn't know it the program I was using so I didn't phrase the question correctly, Cyberduck works great I'll use that as my default SSH app.

No, it's at least as much my fault for assuming you were trying to delete from the command prompt intead of a GUI client. No worries.

I will ask one more thing, I did manage to clean up winterboard a good bit but I had a custom ringtone downloaded through cydia from the movie super-bad and I removed that via cydia but the weirdest thing happened. All of the stock ringtones work except tri-tone which seems to have been replaced by the nextel sound. I have the nextel sms sound downloaded from one of the custom ringtone packs from a thread on here but I never put it on my phone.

I wanted to set tri-tone but now that tri-tone is not there I don't know what to do because SSH shoes it as there and downloading the file from SSH gives the original tri-tone sms file so something is screwy here.

I'm wondering if even though SSH shoes the original tri tone file and plays it if you download it it was just somehow garbled by distortion or whatnot. It kind of pisses me off but I don't want to restore anything so i'll leave it for now.

Tri-tone is an SMS .caf file on my phone, I don't see it in my stock ringtone list.

Did you replace any of the sms-received(1-6).caf files in the Audi/UI Sounds folder ? I can post the sms-received1.caf (which is tri-tone) if you need it.

No need to restore, you can SSH these things in and out, then re-spring and it should go back to normal.

The only thing I did is download am SMS tone off Cydia which replaced the original sms tones when it was activiated but I uninstalled it and all the tones work except tri-tone so maybe it replaced the tri-tone sound. Could you post it? I'll just replace the file and see if that works.

Here is the original tri-tone SMS. it is properly named so just SSH it into Audio/IU Sounds folder and let it overwrite the modded file you installed. Then restart or re-spring

Hint: Always back-up originals before dropping in alternate items. Saves alot of frustration.
