It had to happen to someone, it always does.

I was the guy that ordered the MBP 17" on October 19, and the new C2D dropped on October 24. I didn't even have it a full day. Imagine my feeling as I read macmall's no-return policy and realized I was stuck. And now for the same price, some nice improvements.

I got burned. I've been trying to deny it, you know, look at the glass half-full. But on the basis of cost vs. features... I can't deny the facts. Even if the "39% improvement" on benchmarks is an overstatement of general-use performance, C2D is certainly better.

I am trying to enjoy it. When I took it out of the box, I loved it without knowing it... my first Mac. The engineering, ergonomics, and attention to detail are second to none. No PC laptop I have ever used can compare to the build quality of the MBP. I remember thinking, "This is the way it is supposed to feel."

I am sure it is good enough for me, but like many of you, I am spending $$$ on pro-grade laptops because I make my living with them. I am not angry at anyone; I should have read MacMall's policy in advance. And it was still anyone's guess when the C2D MBPs would hit the street when I ordered.

Sorry if it seems like I am whining. I am fortunate to have this MBP. I know I would be sky-high if the new release hadn't happened.

Don't worry, the speed difference isn't something thats an issue and won't make much a difference to applications put them side by side and you wouldn't notice a speed difference

Buyer's envy. The only cure is to avoid all Mac-related websites, magazines and advertising. Ignorance is bliss.

(Still churning out print work on my dual 1.4 at home ;) )

Think about it this way. Go back a few months and you could have bought a PowerBook G4 seven days before the MBP was launched. You're not in a bad position. It's still a great laptop that will meet your needs for years to come, and the longer you have it the quicker it will get due to more and more software going Intel-native.

Chill and enjoy. Don't dwell on might have beens.

First of all, unless you've ignored the websites/rumor mills for the past several months, you had to have known that C2Ds were coming soon, and yet you purchased a Yonah unit. Either you needed it, and couldn't wait to buy, or you made an impetuous buy, and should have waited.

Now, saying that, you still have a MBP that is every bit as great as the day you decided to purchase it - Merom books have advantages, and better value, but that doesn't change the excellence, speed and power of the MBP you already have! "Buyer's remorse" when an upgrade debuts is natural, but since you have no way to rectify it, you just need to move on, and appreciate the greatness of the MBP that you are fortunate to have!

It could be much worse - you could be using much older technology (like the 1 GHz TiBook that I just retired last week!), or <shudder!> a PC!

At any rate, welcome to the Mac OS and fellow user of a MBP - the best computing experience available!

:)

I bought my first Powerbook in my senior year of high school. Titanium 667 VGA. Paid like $3600 for it. It was top of the line. Two weeks later, they dropped the price like $1000, added the 800 Mhz model, doubled the video power, gave it a DVI port, etc, etc, etc...I was pissed...so I know where you're coming from.
