i have so many things at my house that i would imagine i could have an easier way to set my home networking up with my TV's and access my movies much easier.
lets start with the items i have to use/choose from.

Xbox 360
macbook 13.3
gateway laptop with vista
NSLU2 Storage Link which you plug a lan cable into and up to 2 external hard drives and makes them wireless
Gyration media center remote
maxtor 500GB external HDD (where all my movies, music, pics, etc is on)

what i am attempting to do is play movies from my Maxtor on the living room TV and also my bedroom. also play music, but that is one in the same i would imaging.

currently what i have is only on the living room. i use my macbook to log into my vista laptop (medialaptop) and get my movies or music. then i use my 360 to access the external hard drive which is plugged into my medialaptop via TVersity sharing program. then once i am on the 360 movies dashboard screen i select movie and play. no buffering or anything since it is all connected through cables and no wireless.
i do it like this so i can close my macbook and put it away and it doesnt tie it up trying to play movies and such. get it so far? hope so.

i am trying to avoid getting an apple TV or anything else for that matter. simply due to financial restrictions.

the only thing i can do is to have everything set up how it is now, go buy a mini dvi to dvi cable, a dvi to hdmi cable and plug it into my tv in my bedroom. then when i choose to watch movies in my room, i need to bring my macbook with me, plug in the mini dvi and the audio cable and play my movies. i would then need to get an apple remote as well. or would this Gyration remote work? i dont think it is compadiable with mac.

well thank you for any support i get from this novel of a post. cheers!

Maybe i do not understand your post right, but if i do:
Why don't you connect the Maxtor Drive to the NSLU2, and make it available in your Network. Then connect from your Laptop to the shared drive.

i can plug the maxtor into the laptop and share it over the network. thats not a problem. its the way it is now.

also, i just got a Mini-DVI to HDMI cable about 6 inches long. so i am thinking i am going to just let the video and audio cable lay there next to my tv, get an apple remote and plug the macbook in at night to watch movies and use the remote to turn it off..

seems easy enough..

all thanks for this idea go to Fletch33
