My hardware: 2021 MacBook Pro 14" (16gb RAM, 512SSD)
My OS: Monterey 12.4
My problem:

I'm trying to get Windows 11 (the public beta ARM release) to run in a virtual machine using something called "UTM".

UTM (most recent version seems to be 3.2.4) seems to launch and otherwise run ok (until... read on).

I'm able to download the latest compilation of Windows 11 ARM in beta format.

UTM will configure the W11 beta.

BUT...
When I try to actually launch the virtual machine, the process will fail.
UTM doesn't crash or quit, the [W11] OS just won't load.

Instead, I get a cryptic alert something like "xxx GEMU xxx" with the x's being in some Asian language (Chinese?). No way to understand what the message is, so, no hint as to how to address it.

I was wondering if this issue was "windows specific", so I tried downloading/opening both the Mac OS 9 and some kind of Linux offering as well.
UTM did the same thing -- the OS's wouldn't launch and instead I got a cryptic error alert.

So I'd like to ask -- has anyone with one of the new MBP 14" or 16" models gotten the Windows ARM beta to run using UTM?

If you had a launch failure similar to as I've described, how did you solve it?

Yes I found UTM to be slow too, Paralells however works decent with windows 11 arm.

Hello,
1) for the crash: did you install the spice guest tools before installing ?
I did not have the crash but my problem was that without network, installation was not permitted
What I did: when on the language selection screen, mount the spice iso, SHIFT+F10, D: , spice-guest-tools-0.164.exe, reboot, and continue the install. It works for me
Maybe you could try to download a more recent version of windows ? Mine was downloaded on June 12. It shows version Build 22598.ni_release.220408-1503 on the watermark on the screen.
2) for UTM being slow: First I've tried 4 CPU/8 Gb, it worked nice (Geekbench 1515/5153). Second, I've tried 8 CPU/8 Gb: booting windows was super slow, but after that, Geekbench was blazing fast (1515/7254).

Parallels makes this all super easy and hassle free. Of course that comes with a price tag. I have Windows 11 running on my 14" M1 Max in Parallels with zero issues and runs quick as well

A Video says, only Parallels can make use of the M1 Hypervisor yet.

basicly, if Windows 11 ARM is your goal: Parallels. Don't even try UTM, Parallels is a whole other World and works just perfect.
Yes, it is even worth just paying 50 bucks per Year or so if you need to use it for a longer time.

Setup is simple, your Mac Folders (Download, iCloud etc) are already mounted, everything works perfectly (which i couldn't say so about every single Linux VM i tried - in Parallels AND on my Windows Machine).
Even x86 Applications are emulated just fine, i use Microsoft SQL Server / Management Studio, BI Modeler, Power BI, all work great.

You can try Parallels for free for 14 Days, that should be enough.

I got it working in under 15 minutes the other night. MBP 14".

Literally just followed the official UTM guide (https://mac.getutm.app/gallery/windows-11-arm). Sounds like something is off with UTM, perhaps? (I also ran Mac OS 9 successfully with zero issues.)

Not very helpful for you, unfortunately. Maybe try using an app like App Cleaner and completely remove UTM, then re-download and try again?

@Everyone saying UTM is terribly slow: I mean, for gaming, yeah, I think it will suck; haven't tried that. But it was surprisingly responsive for very basic things. I've heard Parallels is better but not amazingly so.

You also don't need to install Spice Tools before installing Win11 (although you're not even getting that far, so that's clearly not the issue). Again, see the UTM official page on the networking issue if you're having trouble installing Win11.

Parallels runs so well that I'm able to play games. The new Diablo game, for example. Blizzard purposely excluded macOS support, but it runs well when emulated.
