Trying to hack my apple tv without USB Creator

I just recently got my apple tv for xmas and i have about 160 movies on an external hard drive and want to watch them on the ATV without having to put them back in itunes. I realize i need a hack for this to happen but since Im new to the apple tv world i need some help. I tried using the USB Creator and it wouldnt let me get the script needed to hack. I have used patchstick and have that installed on my thumb drive but not sure how to use it or what it exactly does. Need help and try to keep it step b step and simple due to the new user. thanks

thanks for the help, i have already performed all necessary steps besides putting the patchstick on my comp. i was thinking about buying atv flash, is it worth 50?

It's worth it if you want a hassle-free solution (from what I've read hassle-free, I can't comment on if it is or not because I haven't used it) then it seems to absolutely worth it. Others will say it's not worth it, because you can do exactly what it does - for free... just depends on whether you want to learn how or not really.

patchstick.ca provides a better product with more features for a lower price
e.g. ATVFlash has not bittorrent, no twitter, no openvpn inetgration and no Broadcom Crystal HD support

ok well i have patchstick set up just need to get my apple tv working correctly. i am sharing my internet with my friend and atv wont sync things. any good solutions...

Also if anyone could help with a step by step of how to install patchstick on atv and get my external hard drive up and running from computer to atv (bc it has all my movies on it) that would be a lot of help and maybe show me a few other pointers if you want to..
