Hey guys I am having trouble installing new apps. I am running 1.1.2 with the new updated installer. Today is the first day that I have had any trouble with the updated installer. When I go to download I get an error "package download failed: timed out!". Any ideas?

Same here.

It isn't because i have filled the partition because i only have a couple of apps installed.

I can install a couple of things like wallpapers from installer but i cant get any apps to download!

Any help appreciated.

I'm having the same problem trying to install anything. The only thing that has worked form is Summerboard. Anything else, I get the "Error: Package Download Failed". When I go back to the List page in installer, I do see the hourglass going but nothing happens.

Hi, I am having a similar problem. My OTB 1.1.2 was Jailbroken and working fine when locked. Last friday, I successsfully unlocked the phone using Geohot's software solution. Unfortunately, either as a result or as coincidence, I am now having trouble downloading apps using the Installer.

I get to the point where I get a message that the apps come from an untrusted source, and when I hit PROCEED, the download process hangs briefly and a message pops up telling me that the download failed.

Any ideas?

Now, the message I get the most while trying to d/l apps is something like: Can't donwload app because can't find host.

Other online/wifi activity works fine (safari, google, etc). Quite frustrating!!

Problem update:

I can't uninstall app either. The Installer gives me the same message: "Package donwload failed: can't find host!"

SOLUTION!!!

Sorry for the many posts. After some further searching on the net, I finally found the solution. The server that INSTALLER works with was changed. You can resolve many issues by updating Installer and Community Resources to the latest versions, as explained here:

damn frustrating when people cannot be specific - this will fix the problem. reboot your phone after and you will be able to update all including community sources.

Going to the “Sources” page in Installer.app and deleting the current entry for “Ste Packaging”.
Add the new repo URL of: http://repo.smxy.org/iphone-apps/ (Make sure you include that final slash! Also make sure that your iPhone doesn’t capitalize the “p” in “iphone”. Going to that URL with your browser won’t work BTW - you’ll just get redirected to this blog site.)
You will know you have the new repo, as the tagline for it is “New, and Improved!”
You may need to manually refresh it once, after Installer.app adds the repo and does it’s own refresh. The site will show up as “Uncategorized” (at least, it does for me), but that’s ok.

When Nullriver updates the “Community Sources” package, and you update to it, I don’t know if it will just move my repo to the “Community Sources” category, or if you will wind up with it listed twice. If it does get listed twice, and one is in the “Uncategorized” category, then just delete that one. If you wind up with two of them in the “Community Sources” category, then just pick one and delete it.
