Hi,

Is it it possible to make the application icons smaller?

When I press F4 on my mac book the icons are spread over several pages, can I make them smaller to get more on a page or will I have to group them together?

Thanks in advance.

there used to be a trick to doing this, and in a previous OS, they WERE smaller as well. but presently, it is what it is. you CAN combine apps into folder in Launchpad, if you want to get organized and simplify things (i have, for instance, all my least or never-accessed apps in a folder on the last page...)

Thanks for the quick response, I'll put some apps in a folder. Just thought you should be able to resize the icons as they are too big.

i forget which OS's...but the icons were smaller originally. then, apple blew them up with the next OS...but there was a hack to bring the size back down (which i loved). and THAT stopped working with the next OS! and so it is. would be nice if there was a system pref setting to choose 'small' or 'large' for launchpad icons. ah, apple....

This still works in El Capitan

The size of the icons in launchpad is determined by the size of your screen, and the icons are automatically adjusted in an 8×5 grid. I found a workaround that allows you to change the grid – this has the side effect of reducing (or enlarging) the size of the individual icons, and allows the user to have more icons on the screen at the same time.

By default there are 7×5 icons (35 icons in total). You can change this to anything you want with a couple of simple commands in the terminal.

Change the number of icons in launchpad
To show 100 icons (10×10), open terminal and type

Code:
defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-rows -int 10
defaults write com.apple.dock springboard-columns -int 10
killall Dock

This will help you get small icons by reducing the icon size in launchpad!
