Trying to properly secure my Mac Mini SSD

So I opened up the back of my Mac Mini, took out the HDD, put in an SSD, though couldn't secure it. After fussing with different ways for nearly an hour while trying to be as gentle as possible; I gave up and secured the SSD to the SATA port and left it hanging out using the top and a static free cloth.

My question is: Do I have to move out the logic board in order to get the SSD snapped in or can I do it without it. I already tried it without moving it with no success.

Everything is working just fine so I don't want to mess anything up, though if I have to move out the logic board, I may seek a professional.

Thoughts?

WHAT mini? the server?
the base mini?
what ssd ?

some are bigger then others.

I put some kingstons in and they are a tiny bit too big to slip in.

thus moving the logic board about 1/2 inch needed to be done.

all the samsungs fit without sliding
 
Yeah it's the Samsung 470 and in the base mini and being that this is my first time ever replacing a hard drive, I know I'm doing something wrong.

Now I don't think this should matter however the SSD will only stay secure in the second SATA port (the one further away from the the Wi-Fi antenna and closer to the fan).
 
It's funny because I actually did just that. I used a Torx T7 to get the screws off of the Hitachi Hard Drive and it would stay stuck and I couldn't seat it down.
 
look at the cables at the end of the opening sometimes they move to the wrong spot. i will look for a photo link.

Thanks, I'll work on it again soon.

I edited my post since I see a censored word and I don't believe I put anything there. I said Mac mini lid.
 
Not to double post but I also should mention something I found through experimentation. It seems the SATA port that my HDD was plugged into is slower for my SSD than the one next to it is. I noticed about a 5 second slower boot time with it.
 
That could be it, though I need to fuss with it more and though I don't want to do so just yet.

The SSD is great though and I will never go back to using HDDs again. I may go with Apple's option next time for the Ivy Bridge mini or Haswell mini if the price is decent enough. I am glad I did it on my own though I was very nervous the whole time and afraid I would mess something up.
