So I've got myself into a mess trying to do a completely clean reinstall of Catalina on a 2019 MBP 16".

I've managed to engineer a situation where "Macintosh HD" is unmounted and won't mount. I also can't run First Aid on it.

Every time I try, I get an error saying "A problem was detected with the disk that prevented it from being unlocked".

Genuinely don't know where to go from here.

If you are really doing a clean install, erase the disk drive which will remove any volumes. Click on View and select Show All Devices. Select the top level and click on Erase.
