Trying to reinstall OSX onto my old macbook via disk utility. Got to the sign in screen for the apple store, and it froze trying to connect to the apple store. Had to restart, but now stuck in internet recovery mode.

Don't tell me my 2012 Macbook Pro is bricked and cannot sell it anymore!

I don't have a OS disk for it either.

Any fix? just want to sell it as soon as possible since I have my new one.

First of all, you don't install OS X with Disk Utility.

If you have another mac to use, download Mavericks from the app store, and use the DiskMakerX to create a bootable thumb drive.

Boot from that thumb drive and install it.

In Disk Utility upon a restart, you can reinstall the OS. i figured it out though.

No, that is System Recovery, which gives you an option to launch Disk Utility, Terminal and several other apps.

But in any case, you can try to download Mavericks from the App Store, then use DiskMakerX to create a bootable thumb drive. You can find instructions on how to do it with a terminal command. I am guessing an App with a GUI like DiskMakerX will be better for you.
