i have never setup/ used a POP or IMAP email and am just now understanding what they are. i really want to get my school email address working through this. i've seen on other threads before where people somehow come up with mail.school.edu or student.school.edu and all that jazz. i go to University of Houston and my email is very simple: screenname.uh.edu. i just cant figure it out and i would absolutely just love it if someone can come to my rescue and help me out!

Okay, to add a new Email account to Mail, go to File and then Add Account..., then type your account info.
 
Believe it or not, but your school has a webpage dedicated completely to this. I just went on their site, typed in "email help" in the search bar, and this was the first result.

You can find their page here, as well as step-by-step instructions for Mail.

For Incoming Mail Server, enter: mail.uh.edu
Check the box next to the words 'Use only this server.'

For Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP), enter: mail.uh.edu
Check the box next to the words Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

For User Name, enter your mail.uh.edu username.
For Password, enter your mail.uh.edu password.
Click OK.
