"It used to be so simple," Moses said.

I've got a Mac Mini Pro M2 and a beefy Windows 11 Pro box. I've turned on all the sharing options on the Mac. My Windows machine can see the Mac, but when I try to log in, I get the credentials error. I've turned off the Credentials Manager Service and rebooted, but nothing allows me in.

I've tried using my username and WORKGROUP/username and my local mini.local computer name, but nothing gets me through.

How did things change?

Thank you in advance!

The issue may be on the W11 side of things. Microsoft changed several under the hood things with 11, and I've heard multiple SysAdmins and Network ops people complain about Windows 11 breaking stuff from a file and drive sharing perspective.

Hi, there seems to be a bug with the Windows file sharing option. You may think you've turned on all the options but the checkbox for Windows file sharing doesn't stick. If you go back to that setting, you'll find the box is unchecked again. Hopefully this will be fixed at some point as I don't know of any workarounds.
