Ok, I feel apple has completely left us out in the cold regarding clean up on this platform. A year ago it could be said that all the missing apps and unfinished features were going to come with updates but after a year I don't really feel like much effort has been made. MMS, copy/paste, landscape mode for email and text...etc. However they felt there was enough interest in a landscape calculator? WTF? Needless to say I'm annoyed enough that I may jump ship completely. But in the meantime I'm trying to understand AT&T and the whole MMS business.

I still have my old RAZR and tried to put my sim in there to send a MMS but it wouldn't work so I'm guessing that AT&T just has my account locked. If I go in there and tell them that I want my account switched off of the iphone to something else can I just jailbreak my phone, put my sim in and have swirlyMMS work?

Has anyone tried any of this? Does it work? Am I completely missing something?

Thanks

Not sure I entirely understand your question, but Swirly does not work with AT&T anymore. If I misread your question I apologize.

Does swirly not work because of the app or because AT&T is actively blocking mms on accounts that are tagged as iPhone? That is my question. Overall my account right now is blocked by AT&T because if I put my sim into my old razr and make calls or text people it still works fine. However, I still cannot MMS even though the phone is capable. So what I'm wondering is if I tell AT&T to cancel my iPhone and put me back onto my razr could I just keep the sim in my iPhone and then use swirly because now my account should be unblocked.

Is that making more sense?

Swirly DOES work with AT&T again, as long as you can convince AT&T to enable multimedia messaging on your iPhone account. Lots of people have had luck in getting them to do it, others have not. It's probably a crapshoot and just depends on the rep you get on the phone. As long as they check the box that enables multimedia messaging, you can send (and with the new version receive) MMS using Swirly. Instructions are posted on the Swirly website.

I was about to ask the same exact thing about getting AT&T to put multimedia messaging active on an iPhone account...crap shot I guess then.

I think I'm going to wait for 2.0 to come out, and if, by some chance, there is an application for MMS, then I'll get it. If not, jailbreak here I come...

First, I would like to thank all that responded. As of today I am doing MMS on my jailbroken phone with AT&T and SwirlyMMS. This morning I called AT&T and told the CSR to enable MMS on my account. She gave me the run around about iPhone not doing it but then sent me on to Tech support. I just told them that I put my sim in many different phones and that I just wanted it enabled. He did it and I can now send and receive :)

Well that is awesome news... and I think you have encouraged me to try it! Let me ask you though... does it cost per MMS message you send or receive now? And if so, how much? It's not covered by the unlimited text is it?

You know, I honestly don't know :) I was so happy to have it I didn't ask. I have unlimited text and of course unlimited data. I can check my bill over the next couple days and see if anything turns up.

Haha, okay, well post it here when you find out!
I'm going to call AT&T tomorrow and see if I can get it activated on my account.

Ok,

1. Turns out mms is included in the unlimited text option according to my att options summary.

2. How often is everyone having to call up ATT and re-add MMS to the account? Mine got squashed the other day. I was wondering if it's only every month or so and I just happened to add it before a cleanup came through or if I'm gonna have to make a phone call every couple days to keep this going.

Thanks
