Resolved trying to update itunes, mac app store says no update available, please help

One of my applications said in order to function correctly I need to update my itunes, but when I go to the mac app store updates tab, it says no updates available. I'm running Mojave 10.14 and itunes 12.9.0.164. I thought it was set to auto update, but wikipedia says the newest version is 12.9.4. The weird thing is the itunes download page says it's 12.8 (which is older than mine). I'm a bit confused. What is the current version of itunes? And how can I update to it if it doesn't show up in the mac app store updates tab?

Mine is 12.9.4.94. What version of macOS are you running? Latest is 10.14.4... you may need to update Mojave to the latest to get the latest iTunes.

Thanks. I’m running MacOS 10.14. I see in system preferences that I can update to 10.14.4. Strange I never got a notification to do so. Going to update now.

Updated to MacOS 10.14.4 which updated iTunes to 12.9.4.94. All is well now.

You have to go to System Preferences, Software Update, and check for macOS and security updates. You no longer get notified automatically like before. And while you're there, select "Automatically keep my Mac up to date".
