Hi,

I tried to upgrade the CPU for my Mac Pro 4,1 but I'm not sure which step goes wrong and now I cannot boot up anymore. The fan is running at full speed. The red light next to CPU B is on when booting up.

I tried multiple times of taking the CPU out and clean it and reapplied the thermal paste but still the same. I also tried to put back the original CPU and still the same results, red light, and full speed fan. The CPUs I'm trying to upgrade to are Xeon 5690. I'm super desperate now, wondering if anyone can help me to figure it out or if anyone knows any place in New York that might help me? I'm super new to upgrade computer by myself, didn't expect to be like this :(

Do you got delidded Xeons, like the ones that were in.

If you put back the xeons what were in and the Mac wont start you have bricked something.

Check the Sockets with a good optical tool.

Microscope, camera with good macro.

For X5690 you need the 5.1 firmware btw.
