Hey all,

I've been following this website for a while, I'm looking forward to getting the next generation iMac when it comes out (I don't have any current rush, just want something by end of summer, so waiting is fine with me).

What I'm curious about, however, is if anyone knows how big of a part (if any) Japan plays in Apple's supply chain. With the devastation from the earthquake/tsunami/nuclear meltdowns, I would imagine that there would be a massive effect on their production and output.

So does anyone know if apple gets chips/parts for its products from Japan, and if so how much? I'm pretty sure Japan is a fairly decent player in the international chips market, are they not? And if that's the case, wouldn't it also make sense for the rumors we've had about a iMac refresh coming soon be much more likely to be pushed back to "later", with this production delay?

Thanks in advance for your responses,

-cj

My guess is not much, most all manufacturing is done in other asian countries like taiwan, much like the US, its too expensive to be done in japan.

Delivery routes, if affected can always be routed through other countries.

Ummm... 10,000 o people have died which means a lot of people have lost loved ones and you are worried about Apple's supply chain? Perspective please.

im sure everything will continue to operate as normally as it can...if anything Apple will post information with affects to getting customers their products and fulfilling orders coming from Asia.

i would not really be concerned about that , think about all the Mac's lost in the disaster , just in case you cant be bothered to think about the ~10000 people , sorry but i really find it egoistic to be concerned about a impact on the supply chain when so many died during earthquake and tsunami and a whole country is looking forward to a nuclear disaster that "could" make chernobyl look like a little china cracker if they cant control the cooling..
