Well geting a new 1.8/64 this week as a gift, I really am excited to see the differences from my 1.6/80 that i am now selling, My friend just installed a 128 in his SSD, and I will be putting the 64 on the marketplace next week since I am not going to put it in my air., I also have DIY pics..might make a webpage for that....

So for any of you guys who used both tell me what i will notice first :)

You're gonna love it! When it comes to running apps it's faster than my MBP. The speed is addictive! ;)

Yes. You are going to be impressed. The times when the 1.6/80 chokes a bit, the SSD just breezes right through.

Don't get me wrong. The 80 is great, but you will also love the difference.

I'm dying to read your comparison between the two.

The only thing stopping me from ordering a MBA today is that I can't decide between the 1.6/80 or 1.8/64

I like the idea of the extra space on the 80, but I also like the idea of fewer bottlenecks/less heat on the SSD.

I'll be cool to hear someone with real-world experience from both do a comparison. :)

I love the SSD 1.8! Haven't tried the other at all (except briefly at the store) and I really am very pleased that I chose the faster one. The smaller HD isn't that much of an issue as this is not my primary Mac and I wouldn't be keeping a lot of stuff on it anyway. I have no problems with heat, no problems with watching YouTube videos, no problems, period! The SSD is one terrific little computer!

My only "hands on" with a MBA was to install Parallels + XP + Office 2007 onto a 1.8/64 for a coworker. I was EXTREMELY impressed with the smoothness of the machine.

I'm just a little worried about buyers remorse for dropping an extra $1000 for the SSD and then using someones 1.6/80 for awhile and realizing that there isn't a noticeable difference.

I've read the ARS review where she said the 1.6/80 can choke when a lot of disk-related activity is happening. I'm curious if torrenting would count as a "lot of disk-related activity", because that's something I do more often than I should. When I leave a torrent client open on my MBP, the case over the hard drive gets hot after an hour or two, and you can hear the drive being accessed constantly, so I'm a little worried about how that'll affect the 1.6/80.

It has been determined long ago that the SSD is worth the $1000 upgrade for true road warriors. Also for office environments where one has to move from meeting to meeting. The none moveable parts alone is enough to justify the cost. The issue was, if the $1000 was worth it for a home user. That answer is no.

Well I am not a road warrior, and for plain folk like some of us this review will help them decide if its right for them, dropping 1K is not a easy thing for most people,,,,for something that might be slightly better......

I will run it through as many tests as I can, and give you a fair review :)

I look forward to your review. I plan on purchasing a MacBook Air in early April and was wondering just what the performance boost really is. I'd probably not need a SSD for a second machine, but if I can justify it, why not?

Would be very interested in getting more details about the swapping as well ? Did he swap from 64SSD or from 80HD ?

Thanks...
