Apple® today announced that music fans in the UK, France and Germany have purchased and downloaded more than 800,000 songs from the iTunes® Music Store since its launch one week ago, with more than 450,000 sold in the UK alone. With Apple’s legendary ease of use, pioneering features, personal use rights and breakthrough pricing of just €0.99 and £0.79, the iTunes Music Store is the best way for PC and Mac® users in the UK, France and Germany to legally discover, purchase and download music online.

“After selling over 800,000 songs during its first week, iTunes is Europe’s top online music store,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “In the UK alone, iTunes sold more than 450,000 songs in the last week—16 times as many as OD2, its closest competitor.”

I wonder how napster did in the their first week

It didn't take very long to become #1, did it? What were the sales in the US in the first week again? (I know it's difficult to compare, since the US launched as Mac-only).

You'd wonder why Coke made such a fuss about being the biggest in Europe just before the iTunes release, surely it just draws attention to their meagre sales now.

Heheh

Poor, poor Napster.

I normally don't hope a product fails, but in the case of Napster and buymusic.com I make an exception (I actually like buy.com though)

Especially exceptional sales from iTMS, since the Coke store was "ahead of its time". :D

I've forgotten how many songs were sold in the U.S.A. the first week but it was pretty good. I'm just surprised that U.K. sales were so exceptional, considering the size of the population.
