After reading that people have been able to unlock 1.1.3 I have ordered a new iPhone from the US Apple store.

It seems that a lot of people are using Turbosim. Is that the best way to go? If so, where is the best place online to order it?

It will take about a week to get my iPhone (I'm driving down to the US to pick it up from Canada), so I have that time to learn how to jailbreak it. I have a fair bit of computer knowledge, but will probably be looking for step by step instructions on how to unlock a 1.1.3 phone. There's a local place that does it, but they want to charge me $165 bucks to do it (mind you, that includes the sim - but they said they haven't done a 1.1.3 phone yet).

I'm looking forward to finally having my iPhone. My girlfriend thinks I'm crazy to try and unlock it myself. I will get great satisfaction when showing her that I unlocked it myself. Of course if I don't succeed, I wont hear the end of it.

Thanks in advance.

I was under the impression that you couldn't unlock a 1.1.3 phone yet. That's why I spent the money on gas to go buy an iPhone from the Apple store itself. It's been hell to let this phone sit in it's box a foot away from me. Oh well, in due time I'll have it unlocked and functioning.

That's what I thought too but recent threads are claiming that you can downgrade 1.1.3 successfully.

I just got a TurboSIM here in Ireland. I had it installed and working perfectly in less than 10 minutes.

As you can read in several other posts, you cut a little hole in your SIM card so that the turbosim and it's little chip can sit flush on your SIM card. The contacts must line up. Then insert them both back into your iPhone - the fit is snug, but I didn't have to force it. Install iWorld with Installer App. and choose your country. (I intstalled iWorld, then intserted the SIM+TurboSIM, then configured iWorld - if that makes any difference.)

My SIM was locked with a code, but this did not cause any problems. The iPhone dealt with that as is should have, asking me to enter the unlock code. The SIM card in question is a 3G card from O2 (Ireland). I have a few other SIMs to test it on if anyone is interested...

I'm very pleased since the TurboSIM arrived the day after I ordered it, and I have been waiting more than three weeks for a StealthSIM which has yet to arrive.

Oh, other details: the phone is a US OOB 1.1.2 downgraded to 1.1.1, jailbroken, then preped for and upgraded to 1.1.2.
