I see on the web that there is a big price differential in TurboSims and that some require cutting the sim card. Do these all work equally well? Any recommendations of TurboSim that work reliably and preferably don't require card cutting?

I agree. Why pay or cut up your simcard when you can do it free and unlock it yourself within 10-20 minutes. You dont like it you can always restore to stock firmware.
Besides those things are unreliable and alot of times they lose connection to the network where then gotta remove them and reinsert them. In the mean time you havent noticed but you been unreachable for hours :D
And if you gotta keep doing that every day or 2 then it becomes a problem.

A few months ago, I bought every proxy SIM you could buy, 10 of them. I tested them with both my 3G and 2G on 2.2, 2.2.1, and 3.0 beta. None of them worked as described, only a few (3) worked at all. They cycle between "No SIM", "No Service", "Searching" and "SIM failure/SIM invalid.
Don't buy them.
