TurboTax for OSX not ready

Windows users paid $20 for their TurboTax we paid $50. Was ours twice
as good? No way....I had to use tech support who admitted to me that
there were "problems" with the osx turbotax and apple tech support told
me on the phone that they got "a lot of calls" regarding problems. It
seems that if you don't know the special technique, you cannot open
the program again. You need to keep the cd out of the iMac. Anyway,
I am so tired of getting ripped off each year for the extra money it
might be cheaper to buy the Windows simulator software for OSX
so you can buy cheaper software. :mad:
 
It's nothing new. Actually, for several years, they've been charging $10 more for the Deluxe version on Mac. For that extra, they could have kept the name MacInTax.

I switched to TaxCut 3 years ago and haven't looked back.

By the way, I just noticed this morning that there's a form in TurboTax that has a bug. Imagine finding that one just before April 15th! :D :(

Well, I switched from Windows TaxCut last year to OSX TaxCut this year. It still is a little quirky, and they do charge way more by having only the premium edition available for Mac. I cannot get it to do print to PDF, it always wants to go right to the printer. I can do it for individual forms, but that is more work.

Hopefully next year it will be better. And cheaper! :rolleyes:

I have to look but I think I saved to a .pdf file with the first two. I forgot to do that this year.

Two years ago, when I first switched to TaxCut, it was the Deluxe version at $24.99. The latest, of course, is the Premium version at $39.99. I don't care for any extras, since I don't use them. I suppose that they don't make much money on the Deluxe version and wouldn't even consider the Standard version for $14.99.

Regardless, it's a better product. Intuit no longer gets my money on any product.

I've been using TaxCut for the last three or four years, and I've been happy. This year's release did seem to have some issues, but they could all be worked around. I also ran into the "Print to PDF" issue, but it's just hard to find, not absent. To get there, select "Print" from the File menu. When the printer dialog pops up, open the popup that's initially set to "Copies & Pages." You'll notice there's a "TaxCut 2003" item in the list. Select that. Everything you need is right there. Once you've set your options, just hit the "Save As PDF..." button and you're done.
 
I went to Best Buy to get TurboTax for my iBook. Then I found out that Best Buy doesn't sell any Mac software. I ended up buying the windows version for my Dell desktop and used it on that. I didn't have much time and needed to get this done. While I would like to have had the Mac version, the Windows worked perfectly with no problems. Got my taxes done at 1am on 4/15/04 :D . This will be the last time I leave it to the last minute (I say that every year).

I must admit I did not have any problems with TurboTax. Last year I tried TatxCut and it was a nicer interface in some ways, quirkier in others.
 
I can't remember the details anymore, but my experience with TurboTax for Win XP was the straw that broke the camel's back when it came to Windows. At 2am, after hours of swearing, headaches, and psychotic ramblings, I woke my wife up and told her I was buying a Mac the next day...and I did.

This wasn't the fault of TurboTax though...I think...I wish I could remember more but I think I repressed it all.
 
Hrm, I've been a longtime MacInTax/TurboTax user, and while it's not the most beautiful application around, it's done the job for me (and my dad's small business) well enough.

Then again, I don't do much tricky, so that may be why.

Here's a question: If I did switch, would TaxCut import from TurboTax properly, or do I have to start over with all the personal info?

(By the way, give a guy some warning with an image like that! Not the thing to wake up to first forum hit in the morning!)
