So my rev b MBA died and my new rev d MBA will be here tomorrow. I was hoping to sell the rev b but since the ram died, it's not worth much anymore. I got to thinking, it has a 128gb SSD in it maybe I could use it.

I don't know what kind of connector is on it. Is there anyway to take the SSD and use it externally with my new MBA for time machine or just to put media on or something. I've got to get some sort of value out of this dead machine.

I believe you'll need a 1.8" hard drive enclosure, although I'm not sure what interface it uses or how easy it will be to find.

Look on newegg for external enclosures. You need the 1.8" one. They should connect to your new computer via USB.

The Revision B/C Airs used a semi-proprietary SATA ZIF connector that pretty much nobody else uses, so there is pretty much no chance of finding an external enclosure for it. Sorry mate.

plus, the speed would be (extremely!) limited by the speed of the USB interface - you'd maybe get 25MB/sec. a complete waste of the SSD.

you're better off selling it (if indeed there's an aftermarket for SSD's with this special interface; you can look on ebay)

Sorry, I know about IDE and SATA drives, but this SSD stuff is new to me. Ive never heard of ZIF before now.

Would this work?

AJEDTZIFU Jupiter 1.8" ZIF ExDrive Kit, USB 2.0/1.1 USIB interface cable
Content: Jupiter IDE hdd enclosure (AAJIDECSB), Toshiba 1.8" ZIF to 2.5" IDE connector (AAT18ZIF25), Toshiba 1.8" hdd hold down bracket (AAEDT18BT), USB 2.0-USIB interface cable - 6 feet (AAUSBC-309), Driver CD, User Manual $65.95

Found it here: http://www.addonics.com/products/io/aaedt18ide25.asp

A little expensive, especially for only a 128GB drive, but if it works, could be handy.

That wouldn't work as it has the wrong interface. I'd probably attempt to sell it, as other older MBA users could be interested.
