I have a 2010 Mac Mini running Lion attached to a Samsung T260HD monitor via HDMI. I have the mini set to turn off the monitor when it goes to sleep, but it does not, the monitor just stays on with a blank screen. Can the Mac send a signal to the monitor to shut off over HDMI?

Thats all you can do, it can't actually turn off the monitor, like if you pressed the off button on the monitor. (well I'v never had a monitor that turns completely off).

I would expect you can set this on the Samsung under "power save". Look for "switch off when no input" or similar.

I'll try the powersave. Thanks for the tips.

most monitors have powersave set as default. I don't think H ave had one that I needed to set to go into powersave they have always done it on their own once the computer goes to sleep or is turned off.

What happens when you press ctrl-shift-eject? This puts the dell display attached to my mac mini into standby mode.

"Why not press the off switch on the monitor when you walk away from it?"

I do this quite a bit with my Dell display (connected to a PowerMac g4). If I'm not going to be there for an hour or more, why not?
