i was wondering, if there is any shareware to turn of the mac starting sound (os X) - forever .
from time to time i forget to turn down volume and after restarting, it sounds sometimes like an earthquake ...
thanks for your help

That starting sound is very valuable when troubleshooting a machine. I'd recommend leaving it on. It's like the flash-of-three-lights on a PC.

thanks fot the hint - i will try something anyway :) i think apple should have automatically always the same volume on the starting sound - for example my old powermac 7200 is (since today) out of its battery for clock and whatever else this battery powers for ... anyway it looks like, this battery supports also the memo of how loud the startingsound is - and for a "lucky chance": since today it is always turned on the loudest way ... well i have to look for an mute-opening-sound for os 8 now, too ...

thanks for all your help!
