Hello,

Is it possible to stop mac mail downloading attachments automatically when opening the email?
I have un-ticked the automatically download attachments in mail preferences but it still automatically downloads them when I open the email. I assume this option only prevents background downloads.

I would like it set to 'press to download.' This option is available on iPad but it seems not on Mac?
Or at least the option to pause or stop the download for very large mail drop attachments.

Thanks

Remember that even one's signature in an email is considered an attachment downloading...so not sure you would want to do that.

I'm not seeing an "automatically download attachments" preference. Could you tell us where exactly that is? Edit- found it in Accounts > Advanced.

In my experience, unchecking "Automatically download all attachments" in Mac's Mail doesn't change anything. Perhaps it now depends on the email provider but it has no effect on my Gmail or Office 365 accounts.

Thanks for the reply.
I realise that but I would rather not have it auto download large mail drop attachments.
I can live with this for the time being and can switch it back on down the track.

This has been my experience also. However having said that it has just finally started working. I can't tell you why but it has. Maybe it is after restarting the computer or something else - I really don't know!
