Hello all,

I plan on giving my wife my iphone when I get the 3g version next month and wanted to know if it was possible to turn off edge/data, essentially making it just a phone that sends text messages.

She doesn't really use the internet and rarely checks email, but would like a new phone, as the one she currently has is an old Razr.

I wanna know if its possible to just turn off the data and put her sim card into the phone and let her use it that way....

or is this something i will require the phone to be jailbroken for??

Thanks.

I think that if you put random data ( fake APN, fake username and password) in the edge settings within the network menu, then it effectively disables EDGE.

Call your phone company and they can disable data on their end. By far the safest way to go about it.

Her Contract doesn't have data anyway, mine does, so i assume that'll work it out.

Still if she is on contract it can still use the internet, it will just charge her a pretty penny. Just call the company and ask them to disable it on her line.
