Turn off ‘Earlier Today’ notifications

Hi all

I find that sometimes I have notifications that are hidden on the lock screen under a heading called ‘earlier today’, which I subsequently miss because they are hidden.

How do I stop notifications being hidden under this heading?

I don’t think you can.

In previous iOS versions you only had one chance at seeing notifications on your lock screen. Once you accessed the home screen, they were gone.

In iOS 11 access to these notifications has been extended via ”Earlier today” - instead of losing the notifications completely by accessing the home screen, they are moved to ”Earlier today”. No notification is moved directly into it.

As @Puonti said, you cannot. Each time you unlock your phone notifications are archived under "Earlier Today", "Yesterday", "Sunday" etc. It's meant to emphasize notifications since the last time you engaged with the phone.

I am neither extolling its virtues, not criticizing it, just explaining how it works.

I was going to post almost exactly that in my earlier reply, but ended up going with a more sarcastic take on it (essentially implying that).
 
The problem I'm noticing is that it seems to be only the Mail app notifications. I'm on iOS 11.1 and iPhone X and I love that I can look at the phone while on my desk and it automatically reveal the body of the notifications. When this happens, they stay on the screen for me to read them without ever having to touch the phone.

However, if there are any Mail notifications, as soon as it detects me looking at the phone, they vanish. But it leaves the others on the screen for me to read -- Messages, News items, Calendars, Weather alerts, etc. Why only Mail?
