Turn off File Vault Recover Disk Space Thing...

Sorry if this has been asked, I did a search but couldn't find anything.

Is there anyway to get file vault to stop wanting to recover disk space. It seems that whenever you write anything to the hard drive, when you shut down file vault wants to recover disk space.

The annoying thing is the window pops up after you click shut down, so you click shut down, leave your computer and come back in three day's time seeing that it didnt actually shut down cause of the file vault pop-up box.

Is there anyway to turn that feature off, or set it to do it weekly/monthly instead of everyday?

my suggestion is to turn off file vault unless your laptop is in serious danger of being stolen for its vital information. file vault is just problematic. should your computer not boot up on its own that data will be encrypted and basically forever lost. (i know from experience)

If you can spare the disk space, the best idea is to use an encrypted disk image instead of File Vault. The down side is that the secure space is not sized dynamically, but the upside is you don't have to deal with File Vault which has a bad reputation.

So how would I go about doing that?

It's really easy. Open disk utility. Click the icon "New Image" at the top of the window. Choose the size you want (remember, 1 MB byte really is 1024 KB so if you want an exact size be sure to do a little math). Then under encryption choose 128 aes. It'll ask you for a password and you're done.

Do not forget your password because there is NO realistic way to recover it. Once your image is created it's now portable too. So you can move the image anywhere on your disk or you can back it up to dvd or whatever you like. Now you can feel free to download all the porn you like without getting caught by the wife and kids.
