I don't know if this is possible but when I switch to another window in Spaces with an app that uses fullscreen it is ALWAYS fullscreen. I would like to to look like the main desktop window which I'm super comfortable working with, except it's too crowded.

I haven't used Spaces in a while but this seems to be a "new' thing. I also means I can only view 1/2 page of a word processing app at a time.

Can I defeat this fullscreen behavior? Thx ahead of time!

I answered my own question.

I created what is called a "Desktop Space". You press Control-Up Arrow (I'm using F11 for that) to open Mission Control and instead of dragging an open file from an app into the upper strip to create a space, to the right is a "+" sign. You press that and that will create a Desktop Space to which you can drop files that allow fullscreen use but that space will act like your normal desktop.

You are not forced to use full- or split-screen...woo hoo!
