Hey,

What I'm doing at the moment, is that I have this program that I need to use in XP, but this question also refers to mac osx, because it would be handy to know as well.

How do you TURN the screen off, without putting it in sleep mode? the computer app requires it to be active, and so far luck, i have turned the brightness down? I basicly want to run it when I'm sleeping, but being a 24" it's lighting up my room, and have to resort of putting a cloth over it, which I dont wanna do because it'll overheat it.

Any solutions?
Help!!

Somewhere
you can set the computer to not go to sleep but turn off the screen after one minute, in the energy saver part of system preferences.

"What about in XP? ><"

Go to Start > Control Panel > Power Options
There will be a drop down bar with "Turn off monitor" that you can set a period of inactivity, after which it will switch off the screen.

I don't actually have an iMac, but am thinking about getting one, and was wondering the same thing (I often need to leave my computer running overnight) so let me know if this works.

Hrm, great idea. But the way the program works is that it controls the mouse and keyboard, inputting records through it. So this would'nt work.

I just wanna turn it off like a normal moniter.... but there's no solution. :(

i had that same problem with my emac, so when i was looking to upgrade i decided i definitely did not want another all-in-one computer. i was really looking hard at an imac but i was soured on the all-in-one concept. i got a macbook and a 24" external monitor so i can just hit the monitor button. it's not THAT much different from what an imac will do for me and the combined price is pretty close to the same also. i run it in clamshell as a desktop 95% of the time. plus i've got this tiny computer i can take with me.

so, if you're thinking about an imac, give some thought to a macbook with a dell 24" for about the same price.
