hi. i'm still contemplating whether or not i should buy an imac. i'd hook up a 2nd screen and use it for gaming. what i usually do with my macbook is this: put the macbook to sleep by closing it, then wake it up with an external keyboard so only the external screen is in use.

is there a way to do the same thing with an imac?

You could turn the brightness way down, or, if you have no intention of using the iMac's display, why not buy a Mac Pro? If you're talking about gaming you're probably looking at the beefier iMacs - refurb Mac Pros are similar in price, and you already have the display you want...

One of the main points of an iMac is the display - if you don't need the display, perhaps you don't really need an iMac?
