I use my Macbook with a monitor connected. When using Mavericks, I was able to open the lid of my Macbook and have its screen turned off whenever it is connected to the monitor.

This ability seems to be lost in Yosemite.

Anyone knows a workaround?

I prefer to have the lid open so that the laptop doesn't heat up.

There was a workaround on OS X Mavericks but seems to no longer work on Yosemite for now

If Apple thought having the lid closed would create a heat issue they wouldn't allow clamshell mode. I've been using clamshell mode on my current MBP for over 4 years, doing anything from web browsing to playing games. It's not an issue.
