I turned off two-factor on my apple ID to check something, with the intent on turning it back on. After resetting my security questions, I now have to wait 3 days to re-enable it....i was aware this was going to happen so no big deal. however, now the security settings have a section/link to enable two-step, which i don't want. how do i get the option for two-factor back so i can re-enable it? does it default back to two-step? i want the newer two-factor.

also, on my wife's apple id, it only had the option for two-step, even though she meets the requirements of having two factor according to apples support page. any way to update hers from one to the other??

also, which one is better?

Two Factor is better, I did a similar thing and it took a couple of days after the 3 day waiting period before it let me re-enable Two Factor again, just keep trying every day, it will eventually allow you to enable it again.

I know it will allow me to set it up in 3 days, the counter says so. But it's set up to let me do two step, not two factor. Unless that will change in the 3 days.

Ah interesting...So we need to disable Two Step Verification (wait 3 days) so that Two Factor Authentication can be enabled? I've been wondering how do to this for a while as i wanted to upgrade the security.

When I first set it up last week, two factor was the only option under my account. For my wife, two step was the only offered option. Now, after I turned it off, two factor isn't being offered to me anymore, only two step is. This is where I'm confused as to why.

It's like I don't have an option. It's whichever Apple decides to offer me on my manage Apple ID page.

I would have thought it would have been rolled out to everyone by now :(

Well I had the option, turned it off, went to go turn it back on and now it's not an option anymore (two step is). This is stupid.

They haven't. I have two-step, but have not been given the option for tow-factor. All devices are up-to-date, so in theory, should be able to do it.

Well if I had the option before shouldn't I have the option again?

You'll get the option again in a few days, it's best to enable it from your iCloud settings on your phone since that should still be offering the 2 factor option.

yea thats what ill try. my account is already showing the set up for two step, but i can't do it for 2 more days. hopefully the phone will prompt me for two factor once I'm allowed to re-enable it.

I thought Apple was going to offer it to everyone over time. But its been months and nothing.

It may be associated with the type of Apple ID you have. I have one ID that is an iCloud ID. This has two factor authentication turned on. My other Apple ID is not an iCloud ID. That one does not offer two factor authentication, only two step.

Could be - my Apple ID is xxxxx@gmail.com but they should still offer it according to all the stuff I have read. I sure do meet the requirements.

What's the difference between two step verification and two step authentication?

I also thought it offered only 2 step to me, after I disabled 2 step on my end. I enabled two factor auth on my iphone at that time and now my apple id is indeed 2 factor and no longer 2 step.

It did warn me though that I had at least one device that may not work with 2 factor, but it did not tell me which... I still think I like 2 factor better anyway

I have a gmail as my Apple ID and it offered me two factor right from the beginning.

Existing Apple ID since 2012 or so and an existing iPhone 6. Just set it up last week.

Thanks. I can confirm that turning off two-step ( did it at appleid.apple.com ) I immediately got the two-factor available on my iPhone. All setup now. However now on the applied.apple.com website I don't see any trusted devices in the Security section.

Just tried mine, it's not available yet for me, turned Two Step Verification back on.
