I turned off all notifications for Skype in the settings app, I also went into Skype itself and turned off notifications but I am still getting calls with sound on both my iPhone and iPad. It's really annoying.

I think this happened to WhatsApp as well.

How on earth are they allowed to do this if on a system level I refuse the apps from sending me any notifications?

Are the apps installed on both devices? If so, are the settings set up the same way?

The apps are installed on both iPad and iPhone. Notifications are completely turned off on iPad, on iPhone I have them on except for sounds which is turned off.

It seems that the calls from skype are able to circumvent the notification settings and I have no idea why.

Perhaps since notifications are allowed on the iPhone that's how they are coming through, and just getting forwarded to iPad as well as calls can be?

The question is the same.
Well, these would be something associated with and coming from an app, so if notifications are disabled for an app then it seems that they shouldn't be coming through (wether the notification is related to a voice action in an app or message action or something else).

The OP should really reply. I don't see any reason why turning notifications on or off would have anything to do with the Skyp app receiving calls placed to it. "I am still getting calls " says the OP.

If notifications for an app are tuned off it seems that it would be unexpected that something notifying of something from that app would still be getting through.

There might be something to that.
I had Business Skype on both 12 ProMax and IPP11 (both on beta 1), different setups on each and was running into issues. I deleted BS off my IPP and it has worked fine on my 12 PM since. I'll try again next beta.

Is a Skype call coming in not a separate thing to a notification through? Does it not use the answering a call type api for want of a better description from someone who isn’t a developer? Wouldn’t you need to disable Skype fully to disable calls by logging out or similar?

It's possible that notifications from apps that are treated as calls via something like CallKit are treated differently. If so, it can be seen as somewhat inconsistent behavior in relation to expectation of notifications from an app not coming through if the user disables them.

I sent feedback to Apple regarding the matter. This behaviour was unexpected to me. I would have liked having Skype installed on my iPad and not receive calls or text notifications on that device since I share my iPad with family members.

I guess I will delete it on the iPad for now.

Did you turn off notifications in (iOS) Settings or within the Skype app itself?

Do not disturb - Let your contacts know you don't want to be disturbed. They can still send you an instant message or call but you won't be alerted.

I don't know if these apply per divide or universally. Still worth a try, I think.

In my case, both. What little there is on the mobile version - Business Skype.
For me it was not so much the lack of notifications, it was I had different setups for my 12PM and IPP and the notifications would blend. IPP I wanted lockscreen and badges with no audio alerts. PM I wanted audio and lockscreen. Sadly I never got what I wanted. No audio on the PM but see a badge on the IPP. See a lockscreen alert but no audio ring. Message alert on one but not the other. It was whacky.
The PM is my main Skype device so I removed it off of the IPP. since then, Skype has worked as expected.
