2015 MacBook running macOS Big Sur Version 11.7.10

Recently, within the last month or so, the FaceTime app on my Mac has started opening whenever I receive a phone call on my iPhone. These are normal phone calls and not FaceTime Audio calls, so I have no idea how this is happening. I'm completely signed out of the FaceTime app on my Mac, and I disabled the Continuity features before I turned off and signed out of it.

When I receive a call it opens the app to the sign in screen and the webcam turns on. I tried signing back into FaceTime and turning it off again, but it didn't work. I also tried deleting the two FaceTime .plist files in the Preferences folder in ~/Library/ to no avail. Furthermore, I made sure that 'Calls on Other Devices' is turned off under Settings.

I'm not sure what else to do. Has anyone ever run into this issue before or know what else I can try? Thank you!

Check your settings on your Mac

I checked and disabled those features as well before signing out and turning FaceTime off, but it didn't work. I did the following on my FaceTime Mac app:

  • Sign out of FaceTime: Choose FaceTime > Settings, click General, then click Sign Out.
  • Turn FaceTime off: Choose FaceTime > Turn FaceTime Off.
