I moved a family member over to iPhone from Android using the Move to IOS app.
It took two attempts, due to WhatsApp. On my first attempt her text messages didn’t fully appear from the migration. Second attempt all went well, but I’m hesitant to turn on iCloud messages switch as I think it might sync the partial message histories over to her iPhone.
I’m thinking if I do a full backup via iCloud then turn on the messages switches should suffice ?

When I did this the only thing I got was some duplicate messages. Old message/current message.

If I really want to save a particular conversation I export it as a file to my desktop on my iMac. I periodically clean house and delete all my iMessages from my iPhone.

Should be both ways from my experience. It'll download what's in iCloud and upload what you've got locally not in iCloud. It can definitely take time and prefers to be plugged in to sync.

I turned the Messages switch for iCloud ON and now it’s just sitting there with her list of text messages showing an animation as if the persons were typing a message.
Her text messages from android were only about 1.7MB in size on total.

Wonky behavior is the reason I periodically delete everything.

This is a partial screenshot of what I’m referring to. All the messages are showing typing indicators.
