ok, i'm a newbie to mac, and i just got this mbpro, and i was wondering if it's okay if i turned it on all the time? coz i just dont feel like turning it on and off all the time.. but i worried about the laptop if i turned it on all the time..

so, is it okay if i turned it on all the time? or should i just shut it down everytime im done with it?
also, i read about this stuff internet like some cooling fan that placed under the laptop to make the laptop temp goes down.. is it really make a difference to the laptop's performance?

Sorry if i asked some of basic questions, but i just want to make sure nothing bad happened to my laptop. Thx

Why cant you just turn it on when you need it, and then turn it off when you dont?

As for the cooling.. unless you live somewhere unusually hot then the macs own cooling systems will be adequate

i've had a powerbook (essentially a pre-intel G4) for nearly 3 years and I can count on one hand the number of times i have actually turned it off. I usually just put it to sleep when i'm not using it.

I've also been using a PowerBook G4, for more than 2 years, and rarely power it off. Sleep generally works quite well and allows the machine to keep a state of readiness that's useful.

I don't really have anything about powering down and the battery needs to be cycled from time-to-time but there is nothing wrong with leaving the machine on or in sleep mode.

The only time I turn off my MBP is when I know I'm traveling. If it is around the house I just close the lid and let it sleep. Going around town then I put it to sleep, throw it in my bag, and go.

Never had a problem.

There's a sleep mode for a reason... Most MB users that I know just close the lid, put their computer into sleep mode, and don't think anything of it.

If you're going to leave it on all the time, I'd reboot it every now and again.

Why? Simply that sometimes if you don't reboot after a while, at least for me as of recently, the Mac can sometimes glitch, and stuff like that. Though as of now with suspend, I've had my MBP online (with sleep) for 21 hours. What I really wish I had in some situations is a hibernation mode.....

Because you need to flush out memory every now and then.

Please explain why I "need" to flush out my memory.

Knock on wood I haven't ran into that yet. Of course I don't run any crazy just a few things for work and then the web, mail, and iTunes for me so who knows.

It's not windows, you don't need to reboot it. You should easily have uptimes of 2+ months. The only time I ever restart/shutdown my Mac is for software updates.

When you're not using it, just put it to sleep (close the lid)

oh, ok, thx!

maybe i should change the setting, coz right now i set the timing to let my computer sleep to "never", i should just give it some times to rest.

Thx
