TV display HELP

I have a brand new Mac Mini, just got it last week. My television is the only display I have available, no other monitors or tv's in my home. The TV I have is a 42 inch Apex HDTV LCD.

I am also new to mac, so any help is greatly appreciated!

In order to get a display I have to literally do the command/option R-P thing, reboot the mini, then turn the tv on, then plug the dvi/hdmi into the port behind my tv. If I do not follow this order of operations I recieve no signal. If I turn the mini off, if the mini goes to sleep, if I restart, if I shut down... if the mini shuts down in any way at all I have to go through those steps above to get the signal back... EVERY time. This don't seem right for such a costly device and I'm really close to returning the thing. I can't buy a new TV, so it MUST work on the one I have.

Can anyone tell me if there anything else that I can do to not lose the signal to my tv???

Normally, we connect everything except USB devices before we turn on a computer and its display. I suggest the following procedures:

1. If the Mac Mini and TV set are on, turn them off and wait for ten seconds or more.
2. Unplug all cables, including power cables.
3. Connect all necessary cables.
4. Turn on the TV set.
5. Turn on the Mac Mini. You can do a PRAM reset at this time.
6. See if the TV set works fine as the display.

7. If no signals on the TV set, go to the menu item ->Preferences->Display. See if you can find the TV set there. If you do, select it and make appropriate settings. Do errors and trials.
8. If you can't make the TV set work after playing with ->Preferences->Display, call Apple or post details here.

7'. If the TV set works as the display, turn the Mac Mini off from the shutdown command on the menu or using the CONTROL+OPTION+COMMAN+EJECT shortcut on an Apple keyboard.
8'. Turn on the Mac Mini again after ten seconds or more.
9'. The system should work properly!
10'. If the system does not work, call Apple.

It is a good idea to turn on the TV set with the HDMI cable connected before turning on the Mac Mini so that the Mac Mini knows that a TV set is connected to it and uses it as a display.
