TV on 30" cinema display?

hi everyone,

I know there has been some threads about TV on 30" cinema displays, but here is what is different:

-Ordered a MacBook Pro (1,83Ghz -256MB VRAM)
What I would like to know is if there is any way I can connect this computer, by using DSL TV (I dont know if this is really hot in the US, but in France it is...) Anyways, is there a way to watch TV/DVDs on a 30 inch display?

I had another question, since it is most unlikely that this DSL TV and Mac get along very well, if I got an HDMI decoder for the TV, that way I could plug in the 30", but wouldn't it only fit half the screen?

I really don't know in which direction to look at, hope some of you will enlighten me

If you can watch on the laptop, then you will be able to watch on an external monitor by either putting the computer into clamshell mode or dragging the window across to the other monitor.

I'm assuming you watch the TV in a QuickTime window or something like that? In any case, whatever comes into the computer through the Ethernet port from the modem should be just fine, just like any web browser, QuickTime, Real, Windows Media etc.

DSL here in the States is still pretty primitive; I think you guys have much more bandwidth than we do. Our bandwidth on DSL is typically 1.5 megabits per second (I am guessing that paying extra might get you to 3 megabits); the cable TV-based service I have is 6 megabits (paying extra gets you to 8 megabits).

I figured I had to ask my provider since they are the ones that give you the decoder. I asked them if they had something to watch the DSL tv on a mac, and not on a TV as they already provide. For info, in France we can get up to 20Mbits/sec (Paris mostly), in the area where I am I got 1024Kbits/sec, knowing that watching TV does not affect your DL speed, it's cool. The price is real cool also, with 28€ ($33) you get DSL+40 TV channels.

What kind of dsl do you have because i have a constant 100mb/sec rate and sometimes even 1gb/sec rate with verizon dsl.

I dont think ethernet can even transfer that fast.

Yeah right. Direct PC to PC ethernet hookup isn't even that fast...

WOW...Yes, I think even with a Quad G5 and fibre channel you wouldn't be able to DL at that speed

i rarely got 1gbps but i did a few times, i always have a constant of 100mbps using pc. idk how reliable the little box on the start bar saying how fast the is going it but thats what it says.

You never get it. Its impossible. We've covered this.

Somehow I think its actually telling you your network connection speed. "100Mbps LAN Connection" or if you're using a Gigabit Ethernet cable it would say something liek "1000 Mbps LAN Connection".
