TV Show issues

I've noticed this on two separate TV shows when viewing them in iTunes after ripping them with MTR then to handbrake (preset Apple TV)...

When viewing them, it seems when there is more motion I can see like color lines that make up the peoples faces, etc. I don't really know how to explain this, but I hope someone knows what I'm talking about.

Seems like I only notice this on the full screen TV shows as well, not widescreen ones.

Is your output set to 720p or 1080i? You could be seeing interlacing artifacts in your picture (the "i"). Try setting the TV to 720p and see if they go away.

Another thing to check is a setting in Handbrake. I've noticed that a great deal of the TV shows I rip were shot (or mastered) in an interlaced format. If you look at the preview frames in HB then you can sometimes catch a frame that is between two subframes; this looks like lines tearing through the picture. Select "de-interlace, fast" in HB for one episode and see if that fixes it too.

I'm seeing this issue when viewing it on my MBP. Not from my TV

I'll have to try the deinterlace settings and see if that fixes anything. Could the "full screen" format cause any of this? Cause all of the widescreen movies / tv shows look fine.

The full-screen thing may just be because of the fact that the widescreen stuff (movies) are usually mastered in a progressive format. DVD movies, for example, are very frequently anamorphic progressive transfers while TV shows are almost always filmed for television and, thus, interlaced.
