Just tried to use Airplay from my Mac mini running Mac OS 10.9.5 on my Apple TV that was just updated to tvOS 10 and I get a dialog on the TV saying that Airplay requires Max OS 10.10 or later.
So, if you are running Mac OS 10.9 or earlier just be aware that Apple has removed support for Airplay with the latest update to the Apple TV.
Actually, the new requirements seem to be either iOS 7.1 (or later), Mac OS 10.10 (or later), or iTunes 11.2 (or later).
